Amazing New Technology in Home Security

Posted on October 27, 2022

New technology in home security is helping homeowners protect their home like never before and the tech is absolutely amazing. When it comes to protecting you and your family, nothing quite compares to a high-quality home security system. For many years, the security basics were an alarm, motion-activated lights, security cameras, and, if all else failed maybe a dog. However, as technology advances, so does our ability to protect our belongings and keep ourselves safe. With that said, here are some exciting new developments in home security that promise to take your safety to the next level.

Smart Systems

Since everyone is connected to their phones 24/7, it makes sense that some of the new technology out there would be controlled via a phone app, so you are never too far from your security system. Some of the top devices out there are:

  • Canary:  Made by Canary Connect, Inc. This small, portable device acts as both a security camera and a home-invasion deterrent. You can access your video and audio feed whenever you want from your phone, and the device automatically alerts you if it detects any abnormal activity. In addition to the camera features, this device will monitor heat, humidity, and air quality of your home so you know what’s normal and what isn’t. The best part? This system comes with an alarm that you can control remotely, so if someone is in your house that’s not supposed to be there, you can scare him or her with the alarm.
  • Rovio Sentry:  If you can’t have a dog, opt for the next best thing with this mobile detection unit. This bot roams around your house while you’re sleeping or away, and notifies you if there is any undesired activity, as well as records everything that happens so you can keep a close eye on what’s happening.

Motion-activated lights have long been a mainstay of home security, but these days you have much more control than ever before. Like any smart security system, many lights now come with phone connectivity, so you can change the schedule around to keep potential burglars guessing. You can also install infrared lights to catch thieves red-handed, or customize your lighting to fit your needs.

Smart Locks

Using a key to open your door is so last century. With smart locks, you can control entry access via your phone, instead of having to fumble around for the right key. That way, only you and the people you know have access. If there is a disturbance or unwanted entry, you are notified right away and can call the proper authorities. Smart locks are also programmable so you can set it when you’re away and allow other devices to open the door if you want.

As we move into the 21st century, home security will become more integrated into our daily lives. With new technology, home break-ins will eventually become something antiquated, like a landline phone or a VHS player.
